Graz/Villach/Linz – The CRYSTALLINE program is a promising initiative to train up-and-coming talents in the field of Electronics and Software Based Systems (ESBS) as part of the SAL Doctoral College (SAL-DC). CRYSTALLINE is supported by the European Commission under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Cofund Actions (MSCA), which enables SAL to offer 18 new positions for PhD students within this year. The cooperation between Silicon Austria Labs and partner universities such as University of Technology Graz, University of Klagenfurt and Johannes Kepler University Linz as well as renowned international industrial and academic partners highlights the importance of this research initiative.

In the first application round which came to an end in March, young researchers were able to apply for the first nine open positions. SAL received over 400 international applications from PhD students from various areas.

“We are excited about the great number of international applications! The great interest in our unique SAL-DC highlights our dedication to promoting young research talents”, relates Dr. Christina Hirschl, CEO of SAL. “Our doctoral program offers up-and-coming talents the opportunity to work on pioneering research and engage with people in an international network of industrial and academic partners. I am especially thrilled about the applications we received from candidates across Europe and beyond. At SAL diversity is a lived reality – because a diverse team can achieve more. I can only say that choosing from all the talented and motivated young applicants will not be an easy endeavor!”

The second application phase for the remaining nine open positions will open in late spring. The topics covered within the CRYSTALLINE program range from power electronics to high-resolution microscopy for biological and medical applications, 6G communications and AI at the edge. These diverse research areas allow the PhD students to gain experience in different interdisciplinary branches and advance top innovative research.
