For the past 8 years, Silicon Austria Labs worked together with several industrial and scientific partners in the scope of ASSIC Austrian Smart Systems Integration Research Center. The focus of the research activities of ASSIC lies on intelligent system integration based on micro- and nanotechnologies. With its research activities, ASSIC offers well-founded system knowledge about components, technologies, materials, assembly and connection technologies.
Tiny Power Box: Onboard charger for electric cars
In the project "Tiny Power Box", the focus is on optimizing the power density of built-in chargers in electric cars, so-called onboard chargers. The aim is to reduce weight, save components and space while at the same time increase power density by a factor of 4, achieve highest efficiency for fast charging, and increase environmental compatibility.
Superwomen in Science: This is what our researchers work on in the cleanroom
At SAL Villach, we have several laboratories, including a 300m² cleanroom with beyond-state-of-the-art equipment. Sarah, Annalisa, Jasmin and Madeleine work on innovative microsystem technologies, such as piezo MEMS. In the video, they talk about their research and what it takes to start and have a successful career in research.

Superwomen in Science: Johanna Zikulnig

ASSIC Project - Fourier Transform Spectrometer
Within the COMET ASSIC program, we work on various projects with partners from industry and science. Amongst others, we created a fourier transform spectrometer for the near infra-red.
**This project was performed within the COMET Centre ASSIC Austrian Smart Systems Integration Research Center, which is funded by BMK, BMDW, and the Austrian provinces of Carinthia and Styria, within the framework of COMET - Competence Centres for Excellent Technologies. The COMET programme is run by FFG.

SAL & CTR merge into one research center
Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) and Carinthian Tech Research (CTR) are now one research center! On June 25, the merger agreement between SAL and CTR was presented to the press during a press conference, which was followed by a public expert talk about the future of SAL and its impact for Carinthia and Austria.
