HMDP

Acquisition of a hybrid material printing platform for the new Printed Electronics Laboratory in Villach

The HMDP project comprises the delivery, installation and maintenance of a hybrid material printing platform for the new Printed Electronics Laboratory in Villach. SAL has been researching in the field of printed electronics, with a focus on sensors, for 7 years. For this purpose, an Aerosol Jet (AJ) printing platform, which enables the printing of functional materials on three-dimensional surfaces (5-axis system), was purchased. Thanks to the combination of pneumatic and ultrasonic AJ, fine lines (<10µm) and inks in a wide viscosity range (1-500cP) can be printed. This enables the design and manufacture of complex electronic elements such as solar cells, coils, batteries, etc.

Electronic waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the EU and its reduction is therefore an essential aspect of the EU Green Deal of a sustainable circular economy. The present investment project in the field of sensor technology meets the criteria of sustainable electronics thanks to the use of sustainable printing materials and efficient processes.
