The integration of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) into 5G networks enables a range of demanding use cases that require low latency, high reliability and deterministic communication. In this project, we plan a demonstration of TSN in the SAL 5G testbed.

TSN is a set of IEEE 802 standards that provide time synchronization, low-latency transmission, and guaranteed bandwidth, which is particularly useful in industrial and real-time applications. When combined with the high bandwidth, low latency, and network slicing capabilities of 5G, numerous advanced use cases are possible.
This project demonstrates the time synchronization of TSN end stations over a 5G campus network. Different scenarios will be tested in a real industrial environment. Furthermore, we will support the development of a suitable device-side TSN translator (DS-TT).
Expected results
- Identified DS-TT functionalities and standardization gap analysis for DS-TT.
- Report on limitations of the commercially available 5G testbed for TSN integration and new architectural features required for 5G-TSN integration.
- Demonstration and measurements of time synchronization of TSN end-stations via 5G in the SAL 5G testbed in various test scenarios.
