Linz, October 3-5, 2022. After nearly twenty years of successful EWSN conferences held all over the world, in October 2022 it was Austria’s second turn to host the annual forum for presenting research results in the field of networked Embedded Systems. Under the organization of Hans-Peter Bernhard from SAL Linz as organizing chair, the conference successfully took place at the JKU campus in Linz. The event counted 103 participants from fifteen different countries – including, for example Australia, Singapore or the United Arab Emirates – with two keynote speakers from the USA: Joe Paradiso from the MIT Media Lab and Xia Zhou from Columbia University who talked about “Sensing and Connecting Across Scales” and “Direct Air-Water Communication and Sensing with Light” respectively.

The conference took place over the duration of three days and the program included tutorials, workshops, and presentations of papers in the field, on topics such as AI and Embedded Devices, Communications, Security, Reliability and Dependability, Mobility and Contact Tracing, and Low Power Communications and Networking.

Between all that, there was time for a great social event at St. Florian, including an organ concert and gala dinner, during which the Best Paper Award was given to Carsten Herrmann and Marco Zimmerling from TU Dresden for the paper “RSSISpy: Inspecting Concurrent Transmission in the Wild”.

All in all, this year’s EWSN conference was a great success, and we are looking forward to future ones!
