About SAL

Insights into SAL’s mission, values, research activities, and contribution to Europe’s innovation ecosystem.

EU-TRAINS

EU-TRAINS develops innovative wearables and smart textiles with integrated sensors for monitoring vital signs—even under challenging conditions such as underwater. The project aims to promote telemedicine, health monitoring, and an active lifestyle, as well as to establish a fully European value chain for sensor-based health technologies.

Project goals

  • Improving textile integrated electronic systems for real-time monitoring of heart, respiratory and movement parameters on land and in-water through an interdisciplinary approach
  • Developing semiconductor technologies which are able to withstand harsh ambient conditions such as salt fogs, chlorine, detergents, high and low temperatures, etc., and which allow for the re-use of micro-nano systems both in sports and in the healthcare sector
  • Developing miniaturized wearable devices allowing the capturing of bio-chemical parameters such as lactate, glucose or electrolytes from sweat
  • Equipping clothes with both measuring units and the edge-AI processors for peripheral data fusion and edge-cloud-continuum

Mag-MEMS

The „Mag-MEMS“ project aims to develop a miniaturized 3D tactile sensor as a proof-of-concept demonstrator that can detect shear and normal forces with high spatial resolution and a large dynamic range. This will be achieved by integrating tailored arrays of anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensors, which allow for tracking the three-dimensional motion of a permanent micro-magnet embedded in a flexible frame in the sub-millimeter range….

MPOS

The MPOS project aims to deepen the understanding and demonstrate the potential of magnetic sensor grid applications for position and orientation sensing. A particular focus is placed on compensating for stray fields and reducing the calibration effort in modern magnetic position and orientation systems….

InnoTract

By combining single-stage onboard chargers, integrated DC/DC converters, and T-type inverter drives, InnoTract offers industry-leading power density based on state-of-the-art wide-bandgap switching elements and AlN substrates. This advanced integration is designed for superior thermal performance, ensuring compact reliability while pursuing a stringent, ecologically motivated „cradle-to-grave“ approach for truly sustainable electric mobility.
