About SAL

Insights into SAL’s mission, values, research activities, and contribution to Europe’s innovation ecosystem.

WBG Pilot Line

The WBG Pilot Line aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the European semiconductor industry by accelerating the adoption of advanced wide-bandgap technologies across the entire value chain. Its focus lies on WBG semiconductors such as SiC and GaN, as well as novel ultra-WBG materials for high-power and high-frequency applications.

Project goals

  • Realize an integrated pilot line focused on the developments of the wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductors technologies for power and radio frequency (RF) electronics
  • Improve the European supply chain for WBG substrates
  • Demonstrate a European value chain through shared development of novel semiconductor and MEMS devices based on wide-bandgap materials
