Surf's Up

The project “Surf’s Up” is committed to the development of a new generation of radio-frequency filters and resonators based on a new technology of layer transfer and epitaxial nitride films fabricated by magnetron sputtering.

Project goals

This project aims to:

  • Innovate the current technology of RF filters based on bulk acoustic waves in piezoelectric materials (e.g. AlScN)
  • Investigate the relations between all the components of the film stack such as electrode layers and acoustic mirror
  • Develop epitaxial Al0.7Sc0.3N on commercially available substrates in an industrial scale via magnetron sputtering
  • Develop a new microfabrication process including the layer transfer of an epitaxial Al0.7Sc0.3N thin film for high-quality resonator structures
  • Demonstrate the performance of Al0.7Sc0.3N and interdigitated transducer (IDT) structures for opto-acoustic applications

Tiny Power Box 1

In the „Tiny Power Box 1“ project, the focus is on optimizing the power density of integrated chargers in e-cars, so-called onboard chargers. The goal is to reduce weight and save on components and space, while simultaneously increasing power density by a factor of 4, achieving the highest efficiency during fast charging, and enhancing environmental compatibility.

MM-SENS & ACT

The project „MM – SENS & ACT“ developed an innovative MEMS micro-mirror based on magnetic and piezoelectric quasi-static actuators with an integrated magnetic sensor for closed-loop control. The micro-mirror combines large angular deflections and mirror sizes with low-voltage operation, compact design, and high-precision real-time position monitoring….

CoRaLi-DAR

As part of the EU-funded CoRaLi-DAR project, a low-cost, power-efficient, and reliable advanced sensor and ranging system is being developed as a platform for the automotive market and beyond. The project aims to combine both radio and light-based sensing in one module, leveraging the high-resolution capabilities of LiDAR and the high reliability of RADAR in adverse weather conditions.
