FAMES

The FAMES pilot line is a collaborative initiative under the European Chips Act to develop advanced 10 nm and 7 nm FD-SOI technologies for innovative semiconductor applications. It brings together European partners to foster a freely accessible manufacturing ecosystem. Within the project, SAL is developing self-biased magnetic circulators to be integrated into the 22 nm FDX FD-SOI technology provided by CEA-LETI.

Project goals

  • Development of advanced FD-SOI technologies in the 10 nm and 7 nm ranges to support innovation in non-volatile memory, RF components, and power management
  • Development of Circulators for the 7–15 GHz and 28–39 GHz Frequency Bands
  • Performing micromagnetic and RF design simulations
  • Microfabrication and Characterization of Circulators
  • Development of a fan-out wafer-level packaging line for the integration and packaging of circulators
  • Development of a Process Design Kit (PDK) based on the processes developed within FAMES

The project strengthens the European semiconductor industry by providing state-of-the-art manufacturing tools and corresponding infrastructure to increase production capacities. Furthermore, it establishes freely accessible semiconductor services through a decentralized manufacturing model, promotes collaboration, and drives innovation across Europe.
