Together with JKU Linz and Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH, SAL acted as organizer of this event, which was held entirely online due to the current COVID-19 situation. During the three-day conference, topics such as the use of wireless technologies in industrial applications or the integration of research into the industrial environment were discussed. With this focus, the WFCS was in good hands in Linz - the city has a long history and expertise in mechatronics. As early as 1990, JKU introduced the world's first diploma program in mechatronics. The university has the world's largest faculty for mechatronics with 14 institutes and a corresponding variety of mechatronic specializations.
SAL with great participation in the conference program
In addition to numerous international participants, some SAL staff members were also involved in the WFCS programm. Hans-Peter Bernhard, Head of Research Unit Wireless Communications, moderated the opening of the WFCS and served as the conference chair.
Mahin Atiq, researcher in the Wireless Communications Research Unit, co-chaired the session on "Time Sensitive Networks and Applications." "The session was particularly interesting to me because the papers presented addressed thematic content of the current research direction in my Research Unit. We are currently working on Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) over wireless networks," said Atiq.
Raheeb Muzaffar, Senior Scientist in the Wireless Communications Research Unit, gave a presentation on "5G for Industrial Automation" during the "Wireless Workshop." The talk focused on the technological components of 5G that enable Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC) and the integration of 5G with Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) standards. The communication requirements of industrial use cases and the corresponding 5G QoS support were also examined. Muzaffar also served as co-chair of the "Work In Progress Session 1+2".
Armin Hadžiaganović was responsible for the smooth technical implementation of the event. He created content and maintained the WFCS 2021 official homepage. Additionally, he also helped setting up the WFCS 2021 event space on QiqoChat and provided host support in Zoom sessions.
