Usually, torque is measured indirectly through the current in electric drives. However, in applications with gearboxes or clutches, this data is of limited significance. In contrast, our method provides real-time torque data measured directly on the shaft and is applicable to all types of drives.
Instead of strain gauges with complicated read-out systems, we apply metamaterial discs to the shaft, enabling precise, real-time measurements with off-the-shelf, low-cost radar sensors. This innovative approach unlocks a wide range of new possibilities and outstanding benefits.
