The main objective is to develop a spectroscopic system for the analysis of particles in a fluid, focusing on discriminating biological vs non-biological particles and determining their DNA content.
DNA and Biomass Particle Sensor (DOMINO)
Partner Call open until: June 25, 2024
Project Start: Q3 2024
Within the project, current technologies will be analyzed and improved to achieve increased sensitivity through the optimization of sample handling, optical excitation and optical readout. Additionally, novel spectroscopic methods will be identified and explored towards the development of a next-generation particle-analyzer.
Detailed objectives include:
- To identify and verify a spectroscopic concept for determining DNA content of unknown particles in a liquid.
- To develop a novel fluidic handling system and integrate it with selected optical technologies.
- To design and assemble a robust system exceeding the performance of current devices and validate it.
To identify and verify novel alternative concepts based on emerging technologies to improve the performance of the device.
Expected results
The technologies established within this project will enable particle sensing and discrimination in fluids with enhanced sensitivity and accuracy as compared to state of the art.
