Printed Flexible Sensor Patch for Smart Wound Monitoring

Development of disposable smart wound patch with printed, flexible sensors for real time non-invasive monitoring of wound healing and infection detection.

Objectives

The goal is to enable continuous, non-invasive monitoring of wound healing parameters while improving patient comfort and supporting clinical decision-making.

The system consists of two interconnected layers:

  • A biocompatible sensing layer in direct contact with the wound which is disposable
  • A reusable electronic module for signal acquisition, processing, and data transmission

Key functionalities include:

  • Impedance/ Resistance -based sensing to monitor tissue regeneration
  • Integrated temperature sensing for early infection detection
  • Exudate monitoring to measure biochemical/ pH profile/ optimize dressing replacement timing

The project focuses on building a complete value chain, including industries from

  • OEMs
  • Materials (Medical tapes, Foils, Conductive inks)
  • Chips/PCB manufactures
  • B2B partners

Expected Results

  • Smart wound monitoring system using flexible sensor systems
  • A strong and distinctive business case that enables unique positioning smart bandage value chain
  • Development of a smart bandage reaching Technology Readiness Level (TRL6)
