FINGUARD

Devel­op­ment of an autonomous sensor system for moni­toring expan­sion joints of bridge-roadway tran­si­tions.

Objectives

This project aims to design and develop an inno­v­a­tive moni­toring and warning system for the early detec­tion of crit­ical condi­tions at bridge-road joints. Using acoustic methods, different types of defects will be detected, clas­si­fied, and alarms trig­gered as needed. The project's goal is to develop a compact, cost-effec­tive, and reli­able struc­tural health moni­toring system that increases safety, reduces inspec­tion efforts, and enables early main­te­nance.

Expected Results 

  • Inves­ti­ga­tion of poten­tial tech­nolo­gies and inte­gra­tion of suit­able sensors.
  • Design and devel­op­ment of an energy-autonomous sensor system with solar power supply, battery storage, and wire­less alarm trans­mis­sion.
  • Vali­da­tion of the system through labo­ra­tory and field tests regarding reli­a­bility and long-term stability.
