Prediction of Electronics Lifetime

Elaboration of testing and validating demands for ensuring 120.000 hours of continuous operation. Becoming technology leader and staying a leap ahead of competitors.

Objectives

Electronics lifetime is still a hot topic in research. In the automotive industry e.g. we have detailed testing and validating procedures for ensuring a lifetime of 8.000 hours for operation. Meanwhile, a demand for 120.000 hours arose especially in the field of power electronics for inverters. We tackle the problem of missing testing and validating norms for guaranteeing the new challenging lifetime demands by operating electronics under conditions of accelerated aging while monitoring the its performance. With statistical and physical analysis of failure and degradation mechanisms we will derive design and model improvements.

Expected Results

  • Improved modeling and design tools and processes.
  • New standards and norms for lifetime estimation.
  • Strengthened role in the field of sustainable electronics.
