Sustainability is a central component of our research at Silicon Austria Labs (SAL). As Austria’s leading research center for electronics- and software-based systems, we develop technologies that combine innovation, energy efficiency, and sustainable solutions.
Our research activities help companies and partners develop future-proof technologies and drive sustainable innovation. We take a holistic approach: We consistently integrate sustainability into our research and development—from the initial idea through to the final application.
In addition to our technological contributions, we also implement targeted measures within our own workplace to actively promote sustainability.
Environmental sustainability
In the field of environmental sustainability, we are making a significant contribution to the energy transition and the development of sustainable technologies in Europe. Our research focuses on energy-efficient systems, the use of renewable energy, and innovative solutions for a resource-efficient circular economy.
Through applied research in the fields of electronics and energy systems, we develop technologies that reduce energy consumption and minimize environmental impact. In this way, we help our industry partners operate more sustainably and reduce their CO₂ emissions over the long term.
We also implement sustainable measures internally—from the use of renewable energy to mobility options such as subsidies for public transportation passes or bicycle leasing.
Social Sustainability
As a research center, we place great emphasis on social sustainability and responsible working conditions. Our employees are a key factor in our success in terms of innovation and technological excellence.
We promote a healthy work-life balance through flexible work schedules, remote work, and personalized parental leave options. In addition, our “Vital 4 SAL” program actively supports the health and well-being of our employees.
