Austria is contributing an above\u2011average share to this effort: National part\u00adners will receive more than 30M EUR in funding support to develop fabri\u00adca\u00adtion capac\u00adi\u00adties, new training programs and estab\u00adlish open service struc\u00adtures. In doing so, Austria secures a key role in enabling access to a tech\u00adnology of strategic impor\u00adtance for Europe\u2019s digital and tech\u00adno\u00adlog\u00adical sover\u00adeignty.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the EU Chips Act moves into its imple\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion phase, the Euro\u00adpean project consor\u00adtium of 21 orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtions is launching a quantum chip pilot line, trans\u00adlating the strategic frame\u00adwork into concrete action.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cJust last week we presented the Indus\u00adtrial Strategy 2035. At its core is the defi\u00adn\u00adi\u00adtion and targeted promo\u00adtion of key tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies and areas of strength in which Austria has the poten\u00adtial to be among the world leaders. This also includes the field of quantum tech\u00adnology and chips. I am there\u00adfore pleased to announce that the starting signal has been given for Europe\u2019s first ion\u2011trap chip pilot line under the EU Chips Act, led by Silicon Austria Labs. This is yet another example of how Austria is helping to shape Europe\u2019s future in quantum tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies,\u201d<\/em>stresses <strong>Innovation Minister Peter Hanke.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the first three years, Austrian contri\u00adbu\u00adtions will focus on estab\u00adlishing indus\u00adtrial\u2011grade manu\u00adfac\u00adturing capa\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adties and vali\u00addating advanced ion\u2011trap chip designs. These efforts lay the ground\u00adwork for Austrian compa\u00adnies to access a high\u2011poten\u00adtial tech\u00adnology field with signif\u00adi\u00adcant economic rele\u00advance.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe EU Chips Act creates the condi\u00adtions for sustain\u00adably strength\u00adening Europe's tech\u00adno\u00adlog\u00adical capa\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adties in the semi\u00adcon\u00adductor sector. Together with Silicon Austria Labs as a strong partner, the FFG is trans\u00adlating these Euro\u00adpean objec\u00adtives into concrete projects and opening up indus\u00adtrial access to quantum tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies through pilot and manu\u00adfac\u00adturing struc\u00adtures,\u201d<\/em> adds <strong>Karin Tausz, Managing Director of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>A key step in the upcoming phase is the intro\u00adduc\u00adtion of new open\u2011access models, including process design kits (PDKs) and profes\u00adsion\u00adally coor\u00addi\u00adnated fabri\u00adca\u00adtion path\u00adways. \u201cThese tools signif\u00adi\u00adcantly lower the entry barrier for ion\u2011trap chip tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies and help Austrian and Euro\u00adpean compa\u00adnies build early\u2011stage exper\u00adtise,\u201d<\/em> adds <strong>Mohssen Moridi, Senior Executive Director at SAL.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With a total budget of EUR 50 million, co\u2011funded by the EU Chips Joint Under\u00adtaking and partic\u00adi\u00adpating Member States, CHAMP\u2011ION estab\u00adlishes an essen\u00adtial plat\u00adform for building a resilient Euro\u00adpean quantum tech\u00adnology ecosystem.
