One of the divisions at E+E Elektronik is concerned with the development and manufacture of sensors for measuring relative humidity and flow rate. E+E flow sensors operate on the hot-film anemometer principle and are produced using thin-film technology. Meanders made of metal are fabricated on a 0.1 mm thick glass substrate and an electric current passed through them to heat up the glass. The heated glass substrate is cooled by the flow. The flow rate can be calculated from the strength of the electric current required to maintain the glass substrate at constant temperature.
The project consisted of CFD simulation of the flow sensor. This primarily involved simulating the air flow and heat transmission for characterising the sensor.
