Power Electronics

The team of the Research Unit Power Electronics works on new, innovative solutions for power converters, currently on mid range power class, covering all aspects of circuit design, control and integration. These converters serve as vehicles to strongly improve the model based design methodology in power electronics.

Research Focus

  • Combining isolated simulation methodologies to generate a multi-physical simulation environment
  • Improve modelling to cover all main physical aspects on system level
  • Research on the circuit and control concepts to optimize the solutions for different parameters like power density, efficiency, robustness or even lifetime, depending on the target application
  • Research on methodologies to model and simulate robustness and lifetime aspects in a practical way
  • Validate the new modelling and simulation approaches with the analysis results of build up demonstrators

Research Competencies

  • Design and simulation of power electronic components and circuits including physical design and integration, control and system aspects
  • Deep understanding in electrical engineering and all physical aspects affecting operation and performance of power electronic systems
  • Transfer physical effects and behavior into models and model based design methodologies
  • Build and evaluation of power electronic systems under all different operational conditions specified for the specific demonstrators
